Dave: Life in the Production Department

I really should be in bed, but I promised regular scintillating accounts of the days activities. It’s 1:30 am and we were up around 0630. (That would be 19 hours but we had a little side trip. Did I mention the long days?) We’ve been rotating between Departments and today it was Production. Essentially that means making sure everything about the shoot goes well, stays on time and everybody has everything they need. I started as the Key set PA and that doesn’t mean Public Address announcer. Figure it out and it can be the lesson of the day. My treat. From there I migrated to security, craft services and finally unofficial production still photographer. If nothing else I’m learning about versatility first hand.

After the evening wrap we had to strike and handle company move to a new location, which we will re-set tomorrow. That should have been enough, but we got a line on a new Will Smith movie shooting near where we set up for staging so naturally a few of us just had to check it out. Doug Green and one of his students came out for a visit today and as usual that was a treat. Well I’m toast and call isn’t far away.
