Her books and web-based audio materials are used as course materials in universities around the world and have a large following. She has led the development of numerous local and global innovative educational projects reaching over 6.4 million learners through technology; most of these efforts have been underwritten by corporate, federal and state grants.
"Technology by itself will not transform our classrooms. Transformation is found instead in our gifted teachers. There is a magic which happens when experienced teachers, combine their skills and inspiration with technology capabilities, which sparks empowering learning. Our role is to support teachers in taking the risk to learn and use technology in these new ways." - Dr. Kathleen P. King, 2009
"Kathy's" classroom teaching and research has focused on the professional development of educators for many years and across at least 7 of her books. Due to the reach of technology, she has assisted thousands of teachers from P-12, higher education and adult education to navigate the journey of learning technology and instructional design. Her focus remains on how to support their learning as valued professionals, and through that build the confidence and expertise which flows into their careers.
Innovative technologies she uses in these efforts include too many to list. Favorites in recent years include: podcasting, digital media, SKYPE, distance learning, blogs, Twitter, social media, online learning, and video. Her focus continues to be on the value of the person first, goals of learning and content area next then technology. Choices of technology and creative instructional strategies provide a powerful foundation for engagement, active learning, higher order thinking, critical thinking, creativity and research skills. Dr. King is deeply committed to cultivating additional 21st century learning approaches, strategies, and models to help our students and teachers advance to their greatest possibilities.
